
ICT Training Center in Quezon Inaugurated
LUCENA CITY, July 25--The blessing and inauguration today of the Quezon Provincial Information Technology (ICT) center in Lucena City ushered in the nationwide celebration of the 2001 National Science and Technology Week.
Located at the Quezon Convention and Training Center, the Provincial ICT center is the first of its kind in the Southern Tagalog Region.
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Director Hipolito B. Aycardo said the ICT Center is designed to harness information-technology capability in support of long-term economic competitiveness, sustain expansion of IT infrastructure, and lead in the efficient and effective use of IT resources and their application to systems enhancement and improvement.
Quezon Governor Wilfrido L. Enverga lauded DOST Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro for her initiative in putting up the ITC Center in Quezon and pledged support to the projects and undertakings of the DOST in this province.
Enverga expressed the hope that the establishment of the Provincial ITC Center at the Provincial convention and Training Center will contribute to increased use of superior information technology and easy access to global information through developed databases and the internet.
During the inaugural rites, Director Aycardo and Assistant Secretary Carol Maximo Yorobe turned over to Gov. Enverga and other local officials eight projects that form part of the multimillion peso comprehensive science and technology program for Quezon province.
These include four projects on coastal resources management, productions of organic chicken, production of bamboo spokes, and projection of canton noodles with squash./Benny Luzentales
